Paco Peña: Solera

Growing up in Córdoba as a devoted aficionado of the guitar and flamenco, my greatest passion was to delve as deeply as possible into the art I loved, seeking to uncover its finest qualities and truest expressions. I wanted to understand the meaning and message of the music, to reproduce it with the integrity and emotional depth of the great artists I so admired. Alongside other young aspiring flamencos, I immersed myself in every form of musical and emotional experience we could access. Whether brilliant or mediocre, all of it left lasting impressions on us. The essential qualities of flamenco, those that stirred something profound within us, became the most influential, the most transformative in our pursuit. Speaking for myself, they have remained guiding principles in my lifelong commitment to the music and continue to shape whatever I may contribute to the art.

Though flamenco is rooted in the soil and soul of Andalucía, its emotional essence is universal and timeless, resonating across cultures and continents. Today, flamenco captivates an ever-growing international audience, many of whom may know little of its intricate traditions or the deep anguish it often expresses, but who connect instinctively with its ancient language of suffering, resistance, and passion. Within this art form lies a pride of spirit, a nobility, and an irrepressible vitality, a lust for life, that transcends borders. Flamenco has always found, and continues to find, mysterious and powerful ways into the hearts and sensitivities of people everywhere.
