Ankora
These eight incredible young musicians met through Tomorrow’s Warriors and were selected perform in the all-female Tomorrow’s Warriors Frontline ensemble, under the direction and tutelage of drummer, composer, and educator Romarna Campbell.
And now Ankora is the exciting new step for the collective as they make their impact felt on the UK jazz scene.
The band’s influences include the legacies of Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock, Joe Henderson, and Wayne Shorter, while branching out to the more contemporary mastery of Esperanza Spalding, Geri Allen, Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts, and Kenny Kirkland. This is a band that takes inspiration from the spark and power of these jazz legends, but very much has their own style compositionally and in their playing.
