Fundraising for Artistic Projects is part of Dance UK’s new Business of Dance Stepping Stones training series. The short sharp three hour session is aimed to provide practical knowledge and information sharing for self-managed dance artists, company dancers looking to develop their own work, and independent dance managers who want to develop their skills.
Sarah Shead, freelance arts manager, gives an hour long training session focusing on:
• the types of funding available
• identifying local funds open to artists
• an overview of Arts Council England Grants for the Arts funding
• top tips on how to write successful funding applications
A panel of independent local dance artists, including Hakeem Onibudo (Impact Dance) and Rachel Birch-Lawson then share their personal stories of how they have raised funds to create their own works.
Dance UK recently organised the same training session in Leeds. One of the dancers who attended said about the event:
“It was very relaxed and quite intimate. It was nice to meet different artists from different fields and to learn from their experience. What I found most useful was learning about how to apply for funding. It can seem a bit daunting but the speakers were helpful and gave very useful information”.
The Business of Dance is presented in association with Independent Dance Managers Network (IDMN) and Sadler’s Wells. Thank you to Sadler’s Wells generously donating the venue for free.
