Eugene Onegin (Library Opera, 2015)
Library Operas is a new programme where we reduced famous operas to 1hr, and tour them to UK libraries. In 2015 we are going to be touring Eugene Onegin. The aim is to increase awareness and appreciation for Opera across the UK and take it to new audiences. We will be working with young emerging singers and providing them with performance and touring opportunities. We are also going to offer production experience to new producers, crew, musicians, and language coaches, all of who will be mentored by the professionals on the team.
Our aim with the Libraries is to nurture the idea of them as cultural hubs, and build their capacity for social engagement and mobility. We will develop a music and literature education programme (in 2015 centred around the Pushkin Novel and the Opera) in the local schools to the library (the hub). Then we will then arrange for the participants to attend their local library to watch the performance. We will also be providing a book of the libretto translated into english for anyone who watches.
We are currently in partnership with Goldsmiths University (Music Department) and GLL. We have already secured interest from Greenwich, Wandsworth, Lambeth, Suffolk, Leeds libraries and Japan.
Your opera brought the library to life! It was truly amazing – to be in such close proximity to the performers. The feedback from customers was 100% positive. We did have some regular library users that came especially to watch the performance and they were really enthusiastic
