Ben Lancaster, Melior Community Academy said: The residency was massively positive on the students learning and challenging their prior knowledge. I have never seen my students more inspired by something they are too young to associate with. The way it was introduced to the students and drip fed into their work was just perfect. It kept the students on track, yet allowed for further development when they were ready. The level of challenge ranged from actual technical ability, learning new movements through a contemporary style, through to devising and choreographing work through images, stimuli and imagination.
The outcomes of the residency has meant students have been allowed access to an art form and have reveled in it. The uptake of boys taken GCSE dance has increased by 400%. Both boys and girls have collaborative with each other on a professional level.
Caroline Moorby Arts Development Officer for North East Lincolnshire Council and South Bank Dance Hub Member said:
“The E.Dance residency in July enabled us to bring accessible contemporary dance to North East Lincolnshire. All of the E.Dance dancers worked brilliantly to facilitate the different groups within each session and worked with all abilities to create some fantastic pieces of work. The residency week resulted in a performance where all of the groups came together to share their work and also to watch the Olympic Edance performance. It was a well planned, fun and interesting week and was a great introduction for some to contemporary dance”.
